A house for a young family in the middle of a small village in a Nature Conservation Area in the Highlands has been designed with regard to the character of the surrounding housing development. The house with a saddle roof and a very simple shape is highlighted only with an embedded sheltered terrace in the southwestern part. A shifted building of a garage adjacent to the family house enables comfortable parking in front of the garage plus optically shields the nearby convention centre.
The internal layout is simple and very clear. The living room is open to the loft, a feature which the clients immediately fell in love with. The layout of the loft is symmetrical on the axis of the roof ridge and allows a beautiful view of the generous living area on the ground floor. The chosen materials and colours are subdued, of earthy tones close to the nature of the occasionally rough Highlands.
