We’re lucky to have great clients. A young couple with children approached us to design a new build two storey house on a specific plot. But that’s nothing we can’t handle. The last available plot in an already occupied satellite surprised us with its small width and quite significant slope. We designed a simple concept for a house that would fit in with its surroundings, to be modern but not unnecessarily eye-catching. We designed a residential basement floor, recessed into the slope, which, in addition to the necessary facilities, contains garden-facing children’s rooms and a bedroom. We have dedicated the ground floor to a generous living space, which through an absolutely luxurious panoramic window overlooks the village with the church in the background. In addition, we designed the window with a low sill where the family can sit, read a book or just enjoy the view of the countryside from the window. The advantage is
that we have designed a cosy porch on the ground floor, which, like the kitchen area, has an exit to the west terrace where clients can relax and grill something good. The material we chose with the clients is a modern clean look. We wrapped the basement and garden store in brick and the ground floor in classic white plaster, complemented by light grey roofing with all-black photovoltaic panels for electricity generation. The house is considered in passive standard both in terms of technology and its compact shape and construction. The house then has a garden store which is connected directly to the house, creating a practical carport for two cars and a covered entrance to the house. From the street, the house looks quite small, one could almost say unassuming, but it opens up beautifully into the south garden and looks out through a generous panoramic window, which may well become our clients’ main resting place.
