The intention was to restore and extend the current fire station, now an uncongenial combination of a historic fire station and an insensitive extension of a clubroom from the early 1970s. We have tried to re-establish the dignity of the whole building, which occupies a dominant position in the village square. It was necessary to extend the facilities of the fire brigade, which was achieved by a loft extension above the current clubroom and by unifying the roof shapes of the whole building.
The historic part of the fire station was only cleaned and restored into the original form. On the other hand, the newly erected facilities with the current clubroom were covered by semi-transparent wooden cladding. This enables to hide the external staircase and to unify the whole mass of the fire brigade facilities in a very abstract, simple form.
